Happy New Year!!!

Another year is coming to a close so I thought I’d better post a blog to see it out. I don’t post often. Why? Several reasons:

– Most topics I think of are too political or controversial to post.

– I can’t think of anything to post.

– It’s too personal to post. Hey, my family reads this stuff. I’m talking parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins…you get the picture.

– Some topics I’d like to post about have already been done several times over by others.

– I just haven’t felt inspired to post. And if I’m not inspired then it feels like homework…which I don’t hand in.

2013 was a big year for me. My first novel was published by Ellora’s Cave Publishing in Ohio and, five weeks later, my first short story.

As a new author, I had no idea what to expect in any avenue of this business, and it continues to be a learning process. Nobody told me self-promotion would be so time-consuming. Though I’ve loved the interaction I’ve received from social media (and it’s my main platform to advertise my work), it’s also become a pretty big distraction. A good distraction, but a distraction all the same. I’ve met some wonderful, colourful friends along the way and I wouldn’t change a thing. Friends I truly hold close to my heart.

In 2014 my resolution is to spend more time writing than tweeting. These books aren’t going to write themselves so I need to get crackin’. I won’t be hiding myself away, but I won’t be checking in twenty times a day, either. More like once or twice to check on mentions and messages.

Maybe I should use it as a source of reward? I can only non-promotional tweet if I’ve reached my writing target for the day or week?

The other big events of 2013 have been new family born (and some lost), new editor (I cried like a baby when my former editor moved on as an author herself. I love her dearly), a new appreciation for family and friends after several serious health issues arose amongst us, and some first or new publications from some of those friends I mentioned earlier.

Here’s just a few:

Robert India/Patrick Darcy

Robert (a.k.a. Mr. Darcy) published the first three books in his ‘Confessions of a Gay Rugby Player’ series with Wilde City Press.

Lisa Fulham

New author extraordinaire self-published her first novella, ‘Out on Business’, and also recently released her first book of poetry, ‘Words of a Season’.

Cameron Lincoln

Cameron published several books throughout 2013 but his most prized publication is his first book in print, ‘Perfect Pleasures’, a collection of short erotic stories and poetry.

Zoey Hart

There are so many more amazing personalities I’ve met over the past twelve months, but the list is far too great to write here. You know who you all are.

So, I raise my glass to every single one of you (seriously, I’m currently raising my wine glass full of red) and wish you a smashing New Year!

Peace, love and prosperity!!!

XOXO
